Luke 23:46
Luke 23:46 "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.”
Jesus’ last statement from the cross is one of trust and surrender. He is giving up control and placing his spirit in the hands of his Father. He is trusting that the Father will keep His promise and deliver him from death. He was willing to give up control and trust his Father because he knew His character and trustworthiness. As a child trusts their parents, Jesus is trusting his Father.
When describing our salvation we often us the phrase, “I trusted Jesus as my Savior!” This statement indicates we are banking our eternity upon God’s promise of salvation through Jesus Christ. With the faith of a child, we are believing God will keep His promise. Let me ask you, if God is trustworthy when it comes to our eternity, why isn’t he trustworthy when it comes to handling our earthly matters? If we are willing to let Him control our eternal destination, why aren’t we willing to allow Him to control our life? Why won’t we surrender to Him completely? The answer to these questions is found in 2 Timothy 1:12…
"For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”
Paul had committed his soul to God for safekeeping. He was able to surrender in this way because he knew the God in whom he was trusting. He was persuaded of God’s ability to keep that which he had committed. Our ability to trust God, and give Him control, is dependent upon how well we know Him, and how confident we are in His abilities.
Stop battling God for control. Commit the keeping of your situation to Him. Let Him show you how trustworthy He is. It’s time to surrender! If He is worthy of trusting for your eternal salvation, He is certainly worthy of trusting in your earthly situations.
